CAPCOM - Lost Planet

Designers won't want to miss this special presentations from CAPCOM's Takami Taki and Yasuhide Sawada, who will talk about the making of Lost Planet for the Xbox360 and PC platforms. After presenting some background technical information, They'll discuss the process of migrating PS2 generation graphics to next generation platforms and graphics technologies (Xbox360 , DirectX9 and DirectX10). They'll also show off some of the tools and features used for in the development of Lost Planet.

Softimage Production Challenge, Attack of the Jellybeans: Results

The team behind the Softimage Production Challenge taking place on Sunday, August 5th, will highlight the results of their challenge, where they took a concept drawing and went through the following steps: modeling, rigging, animating & lighting – all in a 24 hour period.

Foundation of the ARK

Presenters: Grzegorz Jonkajtys (Director, ARK) and Marcin Kobylecki (Producer, ARK)
Time: Thursday, August 9th, 12:00PM-12:30PM

Grzegorz Jonkajtys and Marcin Kobylecki will talk about how XSI was used in the making of ARK—winner of this year’s SIGGRAPH 2007 "Best of Show" award in the Electronic Theatre. They'll discuss how they mapped photographs of ARK's highly detailed miniature sets onto simple 3D geometry; how they used XSI's built-in character rigs; and how they created blend shapes for facial animation, modifying standard rigs with XSI tools. Grzegorz and Marcin will also share techniques for camera setup and mapping, and talk about how they prepared and exported XSI scenes for rendering.

You’ll learn how tools like the render tree and texture layer editor make it easy to build complex materials, with full-quality shaderball-style previews courtesy of Quick Shade technology. Also find out how to quickly create and configure unlimited render passes in a single scene, render them, and pipe the results directly into XSI's integrated compositor!

Getting the Most Out of a Mixed-Software Pipeline

This session showcases how Softimage technologies such as Crosswalk and the Generalized Attribute Transfer Operator (GATOR) offer a seamless workflow between XSI and Autodesk 3ds Max. We'll show you how to import 3D assets into XSI, where you can work on them using powerful non-destructive character tools like GATOR and Level Of Detail (LOD) tools like polygon reduction, then export the results back to 3ds Max. Find out how your studio can take advantage of the tools in XSI to get the most of out a mixed-software pipeline.
