Softimage Workshops at FMX/08
Wednesday, May 7th 6:00 PM- 7:00 PM
Easy Integration of 3D Assets from SOFTIMAGE|XSI to CryENGINE 2 / Face Robot® 1.9 Games Exporter Demo
Location: Reutlingen Room 2nd Floor
This engaging workshop will show you how 3D characters, environments, weapons, buildings, vehicles, and whole game levels are created in XSI and exported into Crytek's CryENGINE®2. You'll see how 3D game development tools like GATOR simplify the process of transferring any surface properties between models; and how MOTOR makes it easy to transfer motion between character rigs and retarget motion capture data. You'll also learn how to use Ultimapper to generate film-quality normal maps in just a few clicks.
The workshop will also feature a look at the new Games Exporter in SOFTIMAGE|FACE ROBOT, that allows artists to create and capture nuances of emotions and expressions that make game characters super realistic. Once a character is created in Face Robot, the content can be saved out to normal maps, shared in an NVIDIA Shader, and prepared for easy export out to SOFTIMAGE|XSI or other 3D software packages.
Thursday, May 8th 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
SOFTIMAGE|XSI for Pre & Post Visualization in The Golden Compass—SOFTIMAGE|XSI and Face Robot 1.9 demos included
Location: List-Saal Tower B, 2nd Floor
A Special Guest presentation by Richard Perry and Pawl Fulker, the two-man team behind the Destroy All Monsters, UK post-production company. Richard and Pawl won the job to create all Pre & Post Visualization for the Academy Award-winning film The Golden Compass (Winner, Best Visual Effects – 2007). Using SOFTIMAGE|XSI Richard and Pawl were able to build highly flexible pre-viz settings and animations for The Golden Compass, which accelerated the creative process and improved communication between the production manager and visual effects director.
Attendees to this workshop will see how the Pre-Visualization process works, why it’s a critically important part of any visual-effects-intensive film production, and how pre-viz content can eventually go on to become post-visualization elements in final scenes. During the presentation, Softimage’s Graham Bell will follow along in SOFTIMAGE|XSI, showing how pre-viz sequences are set up. Graham will finish with a demonstration of Face Robot 1.9, and the new Maya exporter that allows artists to create a shape-based version of Face Robot deformers, and move it directly into Maya.
