Obtaining SOFTIMAGE|XSI Licenses

Once you've obtained your copy of XSI, you'll need to obtain a license. The process of obtaining XSI licenses varies depending on which version of XSI you've purchased.

Getting a License:

For SOFTIMAGE|XSI 6 Foundation and Student/Teacher Versions

If you install XSI 6 on a Windows computer with Internet access, the XSI Setup program can automatically get your license and activate XSI. You just have to enter your softimage.com login information and your registration code.

If you install XSI on a Windows computer with no Internet access, or on a Linux computer, you can get your license from the Softimage Customer Portal. After you get your license, start the Softimage License Manager (on Windows) or Lictools (on Linux) and activate XSI.

For more information on getting an XSI license, please read the Getting your XSI 6.0 License article on the Softimage wiki.

For older versions of SOFTIMAGE|XSI Foundation

To register copies of SOFTIMAGE|XSI Foundation v.5.11 or earlier, you will need to submit your Foundation Registration Code by filling out our Foundation Registration Form. A few minutes after you submit your request, the Softimage Licensing Team will send you a license key by e-mail.

Troubleshooting Licensing Problems:

If you are having trouble installing your license, you can find a variety of troubleshooting information on the Softimage wiki. In particular, consult the following two articles:

Important information about XSI 6 Foundation and Student/Teacher licenses:

XSI Foundation and XSI Academic Edition for Students & Teachers use a dongleless licensing scheme. When you activate your license, the license is tied to the computer itself. You may activate XSI on a maximum of two separate machines (for example, if you want to move between your home office desktop computer and your laptop installation of XSI).

Licenses of XSI Foundation and Academic Edition for Students & Teachers are also "node-locked," meaning they are restricted to specific machines and do not support floating interactive licenses managed by an external license server.
